More than £150,000 looks set to be paid out in early retirement and voluntary severance payments to five employees of Scottish Borders Council.
At today’s council meeting in Newtown St Boswells, members are expected to endorse a recommendation to approve severance packages for the five, comprising two care assistants, a classroom assistant, a business systems officer and a contracts works manager.
The five staff members were selected from 20 employees who requested early retirement and voluntary severance between April and September this year.
The requests all have the support of senior council officers and, should all five applications be agreed today, total one-off costs of £150,364 will be incurred and total direct recurring employee savings of £118,848 will be delivered each year. Final release dates will be dependent on operational needs and will range over a period of up to 15 months, commencing immediately.
The total one-off costs of £150,364 is made up of severance lump-sums and the payment of the additional cost to the Local Government Pension Scheme of staff retiring early.
