A graphic designer has turned his eye for detail into a new business enterprise, after spotting a gap in the market for a ‘house doctor’ service.
Peebles-based Room Evolution has been established by Peter Martin, who aims to take the stress out of selling a house by ensuring it looks its best before going on the market.
The 41-year-old graphic designer turned decorator came up with the business idea after noticing a number of local properties had been on the market for some time.
Mr Martin said: “When you decide to sell your home it becomes more than just a house, it becomes a product that needs to stand out from the crowd. Buyers are savvy and they want a lot for their money, so achieving the asking price means everything has to be perfect, which isn’t always easy.
“Using my 20 years’ experience as a designer and knowledge of property development, I can now provide the expert advice owners need to make their homes as desirable as possible to a wide spectrum of buyers, and give a house the kerb appeal needed to achieve a quick and profitable sale without them having to invest a fortune.”
Mr Martin, a graduate of Gray’s School of Art, launched the service in January, after tapping into advice from Business Gateway.
Their support was recommended to him by one of his retail customers, and after discussing the first steps with a business advisor, Mr Martin has since taken the opportunity to look at future development plans.
Sandra Campbell of Business Gateway said: “Peter’s business is going from strength to strength, and his ethos has helped him build a reputation for quality and value.”
She added: “Room Evolution has huge potential and we will continue to provide assistance to Peter to help him achieve his goals.”
As well as offering services to residential and commercial customers, Room Evolution provides tailored advice for people before and after the For Sale sign has gone up.
