At their weekly Prime Stock sale John Swan Ltd had forward and sold 1,039 lambs and 359 ewes.

Six day rule again curtailing numbers, smart sheep again easily sold.

John Swan Ltd sold 57 clean cattle, 85 OTM cattle, 2,733 new season lambs and 1,224 ewes.

Bullocks (23) averaged 244.1p per kg and sold to 260p (+3.6p on week), heifers (32) averaged 239.9p per kg and sold to 260p (+3.9p on week), two young bulls averaged 161p per kg and sold to 167p (n/c on week) and 85 beef type OTM cattle averaged 136.5 per kg and sold to 205p (n/c on the week).

New season lambs averaged 169.2p per kg (-4.9p on week) and sold to £94. Ewes averaged £47.05 and sold to £89 for ewes & £101 for tups. Heavy ewes £65.32, light ewes £39.39.

Last week Border Livestock Exchange sold 114 prime cattle including 31 cows, 1,914 prime lambs including 407 cast ewes, 1,560 store and breeding sheep and 64 store and breeding cattle.

Prime cattle continue to sell exceptionally well with home bred Hereford heifers from Cresswell Farms, Belford, selling to 500p per kilo. Aberdeen Angus x bullocks and heifers sold to 455p per kilo and £1,879 per head. Handy weight Aberdeen Angus x bullocks from Fenwick Steads, Belford, sold to 450p per kilo to Well Hung and Tender, Berwick. Home bred young bulls from Blackadder Mains, Duns, sold to £1,760 per head and 415p per kilo.

Lamb trade levelled out with export weight Texel x lambs selling to 390p per kilo from Lochside, Yetholm, Wooplaw Farm, Jedburgh and Inchkeith Farm, Lauder.

Store lambs continue to sell well with longer keeping types keenly sought after. Texel x to £59; Suffolk £60; Charolais x Herdwick £48.
