AT St Boswells Mart on Monday John Swan Ltd sold 112 clean cattle, 53 OTM cattle, 1,942 spring lambs and 316 ewes.
Bullocks (57) averaged 194.5p per kg (n/c on the week) and sold to 218p from Bee Edge gross £1406 from Longnewton. Heifers (48) averaged 191.2p per kg (+0.2p on the week) and sold to 217p from West Mains gross £1290 from Whitrighill. The seven young bulls averaged 181.2p per kg (+ 4.4p on the week) and sold to 192p from Huntington gross £1181 from Blackcastle. The 51 beef type OTM cattle averaged 140.2p per kg (+3.1p on the week), and sold to 182p from Newstead gross £1302 from Torsonce Mains. The two dairy type OTM cattle averaged 130p per kg and sold to 132p gross £844 from Thornington.
The 1,942 spring lambs averaged 213.2p per kg (+14.7p on the week) and sold to £113.50 a head from Muircleugh Ptrs and 229.4p per kg from Huntington Ptrs. The 316 ewes averaged £86.13 (n/c on the week), and sold to £130 from M/s Forrest, Preston, Duns.

AT their weekly Primestock sale held at Wooler last Wednesday John Swan Ltd had forward and sold 1,046 lambs, 12 hoggs and young sheep and 151 ewes.
At the annual Summer Show, expertly judged by Mr J Curle, Bowsden, the champion was awarded to Messrs HN Howard and Son, Chillingham Home Farm, for a tremendous pen of Beltex lambs weighing 41kg selling at £92.50 to Messrs PR Duff Ltd, Wishaw. The reserve champion also went to Chillingham Home Farm weighing 37kg and making £83.50 to Andrew Atkinson.
A tremendous show of lambs were forward and with extra buyers present all vendors received rates well above early week markets, more needed to satisfy demand, Overall average 208.5p.

DURING the week ending Friday, July 1, Border Livestock Exchange Ltd sold 94 prime cattle, 946 prime lambs and 48 breeding cattle.
Organic cattle topped the bill with home bred Limousin cross heifers from Halls Farm, Penicuik, selling to 365p per kg also Charolais cross bullocks from Tullochallum, Keith, Aberdeenshire, also to 365p per kg and £1,496.50 per head, 14 averaged £1,248.67. Simmental cross and Limousin cross young bulls, Scottish, under 16 months, sold to 320p per kg and £1,267 per head.
Prime lambs sold to 435p per kg and £91.35 per head for Texel cross export weights from Hollybush, Galashiels. Charollais cross medium weights from Cornhill Farm, Cornhill, sold to 425p per kg and £89.25. Suffolk cross lambs from Easington Grange, Belford, sold to 420p per kg and £88.20.
Fantastic Texel cross lambs from Meadowrig, Lamberton, also sold to 420p per kg.
Breeding and store cattle continue to sell well with strong demand coming from the North East of Scotland. Charolais cross and Simmental cross cows in regular ages averaged £1,460 for 37 head.
