Bullocks (74) averaged 182p per kg (-2.1p on the week) and sold to 202p from Bee Edge, gross £1296 from Dunslaw. Heifers (53) averaged 181.8p per kg (+4.0p on the week) and sold to 201p from Bee Edge, gross £1184 from Upper Nisbet. The seven young bulls averaged 167p per kg (-5.0p on the week) and sold to 175p from Hopton gross £1139 from Haughhead. The 86 beef type OTM cattle averaged 127.5p per kg and sold to 164p from Bowland gross £1497 from Coates. The three dairy type OTM cattle sold to 89p gross £500 from Sandyknowe.
The 756 spring lambs averaged 252.1p per kg (-2.1p on the week) and sold to £120 a head for Texels from Huntington, Lauder and 310.3p per kg for Charolais from Firm of Hundalee, Jedburgh. The 208 prime hoggs averaged 195.7p per kg, and sold to £120.50 a head for Texels from Mr Dalton, Milrighall, Midlem and 239.1p per kg for Texels from J Manderson, Kilnknowe. The 337 ewes averaged £89.59 (+£11.39 on the week) and sold to £128 for Suffolks from M/s Clark and Son, Upper Bolton.

Border Livestock Exchange, week ending Friday May 27 sold 146 prime cattle, 54 cows and bulls, 741 prime lambs including 211 cast ewes and 124 store & breeding cattle.
Prime cattle were topped by Bonjedward Mill, Jedburgh with Aberdeen Angus Bullocks selling to 330p per kilo to Well Hung & Tender, Berwick-upon-Tweed. 13-month-old young bulls from Whitmuirhaugh, Kelso sold to 312p and £1,342 per head with the whole consignment averaging £1,186 per head. Aberdeen Angus bullocks from Sandystones, Ancrum, Jedburgh and Eastfield of Lempitlaw, Kelso realised 325p per kilo and £1,192 per head. Continental crosses from Hallrule Farms, Bonchester Bridge, Hawick sold to 315p per kilo. Quality Simm x Luing young bulls from Attonburn, Yetholm to 300p and £1,047 per head.
New season lambs continue to sell extremely well with best quality lambs from Eastfield of Lempitlaw and Whitehaugh, Hawick selling to 560p per kilo and £117.60. Continental x from Easington Grange and Cornhill Farm to 550p and £115.80.
Breeding cattle with good health management policies sold readily with Aberdeen Angus x cows with Lim and Simm x calves selling to £1,500.
At their weekly Primestock Sale in Wooler last Wednesday John Swan Ltd had forward and sold 156 lambs, 133 hoggs and 126 ewes.

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart PL. had forward 48 prime cattle, 41 over 30 month cattle, 516 spring lambs, 2,217 prime hoggs and 2,567 cast ewes and rams at their weekly sale at Longtown last Thursday.
Another good show of well finished cattle on offer but more handyweight cattle required to fill buyer’s orders. Prices peaked at 199.5p for a British Blue bullock from A. and W.J. Taylor and Son, Dashwell Green, purchased by W. Kirkup and Sons, Butchers, Longtown. Mr A. Irving, Toppin Castle sold a run of six Limousin heifers to average 193.1p and topped at 198.5p twice. Limousin bullocks topped at 189.5p from J.C. and D. Nicholson, The Gill.

A good show of 516 spring lambs was forward, with the average being 238.3p per kilo, in line with national trend. The 2,217 hoggets forward again met an animated trade and averaged 214.5p per kilo, with well fleshed hoggs still sought after. Top of 239p per kilo for Cheviots from Golden Lane and to £116.50 per head for Texels from Messrs Tullie, Bowan Hill.

A smaller show of 2,567 cast ewes and rams were forward to the usual ring of buyers and met an animated trade. Ewes were £5 dearer on the week with smaller hill type ewes short of requirements.
