Jethart Pastie wins diamond award

Jedburgh butcher A. J. Learmonth has been presented with a top honour at the 16th World Scotch Pie Championships.

The Diamond Award for Hot Savoury was given to the Jethart Pastie – delighting the Borders firm.

A spokesperson for the butcher said: “We are delighted with our win and can go away with our heads held very high indeed.

“To have been judged as one of the best in land against so many of our peers is a huge achievement.”

The ultimate prize, the title “World Scotch Pie Champion 2015”, went to Murrays Bakers of Perth.

Following the busiest judging day ever with a record entry of 100 butchers and bakers entering some 567 pies, pasties, sausage rolls, bridies, savouries and apple pies into the competition, and with some 300 hopefuls attending the awards luncheon in Cumbernauld, all the shortlisted entrants can be proud to have produced some of the best products in the land.
