It’s been a hair-raising year for Luigi Caterino, owner of The Italian Job Barbers in Galashiels.

Winner of the Britain’s Best Shave title earlier this year – in a competition organised by the Bluebeard’s Revenge shaving product company – Luigi has now won the Barbers of the Year title in the prestigious Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards, held at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow.

He was shortlisted as happy customers nominated his shop – situated on the corner of Bank Street and Channel St – and independent judges visited the business and saw enough to award him the title.

Luigi said: “I’m very happy. This year is been amazing for me.

“I always try with all my passion to work hard for all my customers, and I want to thank my family, friends and customers for supporting me all this time.”

Luigi’s success has not gone unnoticed. Earlier this year, he was named the official barber for Rangers FC.

And, of course, his business is going from strength to strength.

He has taken on his cousin Francesco Caterino, also from Italy, who has just completed college.

And, to repay the people of the Scottish Borders, he wants to give as many people as possible a part-time position, so that they can “learn my passion for the job”.

He added: “It is my dream to have space in either the high school or Borders College to teach everyone the barbering skill, free of charge.”

Another Galashiels business to do well at the awards was Enhance Beauty & Tanning in the town’s Bank Street, which won Team/Service of the Year for both the South East and the overall Scottish title.
