THE Borders Festival of the Horse celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and on Wednesday writer Judy Steel will launch the 11-day celebration at Abbotsford House.
This year’s theme for the ever-popular guided rides is Sir Walter Scott.
Festival organisers have arranged for the Household Cavalry to perform its Musical Ride at Floors Castle later this year.
About 30 horses and riders are expected for the first guided ride at Abbotsford on Wednesday.
Other events include the launch of Horse Tales and Saddle Songs, an anthology of poetry by Judy Steel, an art exhibition, horse whispering, a horse cabaret, competitions and training.
The first festival of its type in the UK was started by the Borders branch of the British Horse Society in the wake the foot and mouth outbreak in 2001
