Dickson at the double in Highland cattle show

IT was success at the double for Peebleshire farmer David Dickson who took both the male and female supreme championships at the Highland Cattle Society’s 114th annual autumn show and sale at Oban earlier this month.

The supreme champion female, which had earlier won the cows and senior heifers section in the show, was Catriona Akeko of Lyntoun, a five-year-old sired by Angus Mhor of Auch out of Sonasag of Glengarry.

This success was followed by judge John Crilley pulling forward Dickson’s bull calf class winner, Blair Rannch of Lyntoun, for the male championship.

The February-born calf was sired by Ruairidh of Mottistone out of Hazel of Lyntoun.

Mr Crilley, of Balmore of Leys, Culduthel, Inverness, described the female champion as an outstanding cow and went on: “She was a big cow – not many of them grow to that size. Today’s show featured outstanding quality with some lovely heifers.”

There were more than 130 Highland cattle forward for the show
