MIDLOTHIAN South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale MSP Christine Grahame launched the “Feed Your Family from 50 Miles” campaign at Whitmuir, The Organic Place, near West Linton last week.
The initiative is part of Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight and Ms Grahame enjoyed a 50-mile breakfast, including honey, eggs, bacon, sausage and tomato from the farm at Whitmuir – porridge with oats from millers John Hogarth in Kelso, milk from Clyde Organics, and bread baked with Whitmuir-grown wheat by neighbour Andrew Whitley of Bread Matters.
Ms Grahame said: “Scotland has a tremendous range of small local producers and this initiative will help them connect with customers and get more people eating the great seasonal food available on their doorstep.”
The 50 miles campaign is supported by Nourish Scotland, Soil Association Scotland, Fife Diet, Sustaining Dunbar and Tweed Green.
Participating farm shops, farmers’ markets, restaurants and specialist retailers across Scotland are using 50-Mile stickers to showcase local produce and menus.
