Agreement reached on closed law firm

The closure of Kelso law firm Stormonth Darling has led to talks between local company Cullen Kilshaw and the Law Society of Scotland, writes Bob Burgess.

Society officials moved in when sole partner Craig Wood became ill and following the suspension by the Law Society of former leading partner Andrew Penman in November.

The Southern can confirm that partners David Kilshaw and Jim Cullen have reached an agreement with the society and Stormonth Darling’s representatives to take over certain parts of the closed-down company.

Cullen Kilshaw says it will take on responsibility for all current transactions and take into its care all title deeds, wills, Powers of Attorney and other documents held on behalf of the company’s clients.

Those clients are being sent a letter explaining the new arrangements.

Mr Kilshaw said: “Our thoughts are very much with young Craig Wood and we trust he will make a full recovery.

“While the surrounding circumstances are very unfortunate, Jim and I are pleased to have an opportunity to provide a full range of legal services to all the former clients of Stormonth Darling.”
