Borders route for arthritis charity walkers

THE Borders has been selected for a national fundraising event in aid of the charity Arthritis Research UK.

It will take place on Saturday, June 4, along the route of the Borders Abbey Way from Selkirk to Melrose.

The event has this week received the endorsement of John Raine, chairman of the board of NHS Borders who told us: “The first Arthritis Research UK sponsored walk in our region is not only a great way of enjoying some stunning Borders scenery, but it is also an opportunity to raise funds towards vital research into a disease that affects many local people.

“Walking or running is also a great way to improve your health and to socialise, so I would encourage people to pull on their trainers and get involved.”

Participation is sought from individuals and groups for the event which starts at 10am. It will end with a welcome cuppa at Melrose Rugby Club.

The charity’s regional fundraising manager, said: “We fund research into the many forms of this cruel disease which affects old and young alike.

“Fantastic developments have been made, but with over 10 million people, including children, affected by arthritis, more needs to be done.”

Places for the guided walk are limited, so for more information or sponsorship forms, contact Marion on 07736 157803 or email
