Come Sunday, Borders MP John Lamont has just two weeks to get some extra training in for the London Marathon.

He will take on the streets of London as one of a record number of MPs taking part.

John is raising funds for MND Scotland and the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and over the Easter weekend, he was presented with his MND Scotland running top by local trustee Will Roberts at the Greenyards.

This will be his third marathon, following New York in 2011 (where he raised more than £2,000 for Borders Osteoporosis Society) and Edinburgh in 2012. John also completed an Ironman Triathlon in 2014.

John said: “After I was lucky enough to secure a place in this year’s London Marathon, I wanted to do my bit to raise some money to fight MND. Thanks to everyone who has donated already.

“Both MND Scotland and Doddie’s Foundation are doing excellent work supporting MND sufferers and their families, as well as working hard to find treatments and ultimately a cure for MND.

“I’ve now just a few weeks to go and while training hasn’t been made particularly easy thanks to the weather, I feel as ready as I can be.”

Trustee Will told us: “It’s great that John has chosen to support MND Scotland, as well as Doddie’s Foundation. Doddie’s work since his diagnosis has really raised awareness of the disease and is helping to inspire others to do fundraising.

“The race is on to find a cure for MND and every pound John raises in his own race will bring us a step closer to beating the disease.”
