Bin uplifts to change over Christmas and New Year weeks

Members of the public and business owners are being encouraged to check the council’s website for changes to services over the festive period.

Councillor Sandy Aitchison, the council’s executive member for neighbourhoods and locality services, said: “Members of the public wishing to find out how our services are affected during the festive holiday period are encouraged to check www.scotborders.gov.uk/openingtimes

“Anyone without access to the internet via computer, tablet or smartphone, can call 0300 100 1800 to find out the full details.”

Contact centres

All contact centres will be closed Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, December 25, 26, 28 and 29, and Wednesday and Thursday, January 1 and 2.

Some contact centres will be closed additional days during the holidays, with full details at the website.

Waste and recycling collections

Residents have been thanked for their recycling efforts throughout 2019.

In line with the Millions of Reasons to Recycle campaign, the council is asking households to continue to recycle over the festive period, which will see some changes to waste services.

For the most up-to-date information on any domestic collection please use the council’s online postcode look-up tool.

There will be no general, recycling and food waste collections on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

All Wednesday collections will be rescheduled either earlier or later that week.

Some Thursday collections may also be rescheduled to another day.

Trade waste

Trade general waste and recycling collections due on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day will be rescheduled to Friday, December 27 and January 3 respectively.

Collections due on Boxing Day and January 2 will be rescheduled to Monday, December 30 and Monday, January 6, respectively.

Any trade general and recycling waste in Selkirk normally collected on Wednesdays or Thursdays week beginning 23 and 30 December will be uplifted earlier, on Tuesdays 24 and 31 December.

Trade food and fortnightly general waste and recycling collections will be the same as the domestic festive schedule.

All community recycling centres and transfer stations will be closed on December 25 and 26 and January 1 and 2.

Christmas trees can be taken to any community recycling centre for composting.

Services will return to normal on Monday, January 6, 2020.
