THE Borders Big Band return to the Wynd Theatre with a new-look line-up.
Following Mike Westwater’s retirement from first alto chair, Sam Lord has joined the band first formed in the late 1970s.
Also, new member Malcolm Vannan has taken up the second alto position. Mike Hardy, a player well-known across Scotland, continues as lead trumpet, with Lothian members Jimmy Taylor (bass) and Neil Smith (drums) continue in the rhythm section.
The band, who continue to encourage players of all ages, recently welcomed talented teenager Harry Marshall into the trumpet section.
Other seasoned Borders jazz names in the band include Gordon Melrose (lead trombone), Al Graham (first tenor) and Dan Ward (baritone), all under the continued direction of pianist Chris Achenbach.
Tickets are priced at £10 (£8 concessions) for the Sunday, June 3 gig in Melrose, which begins at 7.30pm. To book, email email@example.com or phone 01896 820028 and leave a message.
