Award-winning duo for Melrose recital

VIOLINIST Harriet Mackenzie and pianist Christina Lawrie, known professionally as the Sutherland Duo, will perform a recital for Melrose Music Society in the parish church hall next Friday, October 14, at 7.30pm.

Winners of the Enterprise Music of Scotland Award 2011-2012, their eclectic programme includes works by Bach (Sonata in G major), Brahms (Sonata no 1 in G major Op 78), James McMillan (Kiss on Wood), Elgar (Salut d’amour, Chanson de nuit, Chanson du matin, Op 15 nos. 1 & 2) and Pablo de Sarasute (Zigeunerweisen).

Harriet and Christina met at London’s Royal Academy of Music where they learned they shared a Highland heritage in the neighbouring Sutherland glens of Strath Halladale and Strath of Kildonan. Since then, in addition to recitals throughout Scotland, they have performed live for the BBC, played at prestigious venues in London and for the Bath 300th anniversary concert as well as being chosen to give recitals on the final cruise of the famous Queen Elizabeth 2 liner in 2008.

Tickets are £12 at the door. Admission free for accompanied children.
