Gill Brownlie is preparing to cycle 500km, from Vietnam into Cambodia, with all the funds she raises going towards Parkinson’s UK.

She is raising the money in memory of her late father, David Ross, who is much missed after passing away on Boxing Day last year.

David (76) had been living with Parkinson’s for the last 13 years.

Gill said this week: “I’m hoping to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK and awareness of the condition and the charity.

“It’s an issue close to my heart.

“Parkinson’s affects the whole family, it’s been heartbreaking watching my big strong Dad deteriorate, slowly losing his independence and going into a nursing home before finally losing his battle with Parkinson’s on Boxing Day.

“This will be the biggest challenge I have ever undertaken.

“It’s both scary and exciting but I know I’ll manage it because I’m doing it for Dad.”

Gill’s adventure will see her cycle 500km in just eight days during February.

She will cycle through the rice paddies and the waterways of the lush Mekong Delta in Vietnam, and on into Cambodia where the journey will end at the legendary temple of Angkor Wat.

Paul Jackson-Clark, Director of Fundraising at Parkinson’s UK, said: “I would like to thank Gill and congratulate her on embarking on this fantastic challenge.

“As the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity, we’re leading the way to find a cure but our work is dependent on donations and fundraisers like Gill.”

Parkinson’s UK hosts a number of cycling events; see www.parkinsons.org.uk/event-categories/cycling for more information.
