AN Amnesty International UK (AI UK) representative will speak at the local group’s next meeting later this month.
Scottish rep Allison Cosgrove will talk about AI UK’s recent activities and current campaigns in the Ormiston Institute in Melrose on September 22 from 7.30 to 9pm.
The Borders Amnesty group meets once a month and regular activities include letter-writing evenings, when members write to politicians and diplomats to highlight the cases of prisoners of conscience and human rights defenders around the world.
Publicity officer Felicity Burrows said: “This important work is a real encouragement to the people being supported by Amnesty, as well as sending a message to the people responsible for the violation of human rights that their actions will not go unnoticed or unchallenged.”
Visitors and new members are always welcome at meetings and events: for more information about Borders Amnesty Group, contact secretary Moira Walsh at email@example.com or Felicity Burrows at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit http://borders.amnesty.org.uk
