Ms Bailes has had a lifetime career in the diplomatic service, including being attached to NATO, specialising in security, defence and armaments.

She spoke about Iceland, a country she fell in love with on a holiday, and where she has now lived, near Reykjavick, for eight years. She spends half the year there and the remainder at her home in Selkirk.

Ms Bailes is a member of Reykjavick Rotary Club and an associate member of the Selkirk one.
