SCOTTISH Borders Council has apologised for the inconvenience which will be caused next week when two busy stretches of the A7 north of Galashiels are closed for essential repairs.
The de-trunked route, for which SBC is responsible, will be closed both ways from the B6368 Gilston junction to Stow from 9am till 5pm on Monday and Tuesday.
The seven-mile section linking Stow and Galashiels will close between the same times on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Northbound through traffic will be diverted east along the A6091 (Melrose bypass) and to the A68 before returning to the A7 via London Road and Buccleuch Street in Dalkeith and the A6094. The reverse alternative route will apply to southbound traffic.
Dispensation will be give to buses and school taxis which will run as normal.
A council spokesman said: “We apologise for the inconvenience caused by these closures, but would ask motorists to bear with us.
“Carriageway patching is taking place on sections which have failed and are in need of repair to make them safer and the completion of ongoing carriageway widening is part of our accident, investigation and prevention works.
“While the repair work is being carried out, our teams will also be cleaning out road gullies and installing a new draining system at Bowshank, just north of the Bowland junction.”
