A mother’s pool plea

I can’t believe the hydrotherapy pool at Borders General Hospital is under threat of closure.

My son has complex needs and when he’s well enough he uses the pool weekly with his dedicated physio Claire, and Anne.

My son gets so much out of the warm water and freedom it gives him. He can’t use other local pools – they are too cold, the changing rooms too small and he needs the bed to lower him into the water.

The powers-that-be don’t have a clue about the dedicated staff and people who really benefit from using it. I invite them any Tuesday afternoon to go and see my son use it and the pleasure and stimulation he gets from it.

There’s nothing in the Borders for people, young or old, with complex needs – please think again about what you are doing.
