An 85-year-old woman was left seriously injured after being robbed of her handbag in Galashiels on Saturday.

The robber attacked the pensioner at around noon in Croft Street, near Greenbank Street, then made off with her beige handbag.

The woman was so badly hurt by the attack that she required hospital treatment afterwards.

The only description given of the robber is that he is male and was wearing a dark grey hooded top.

He ran down Greenbank Street in the direction of the Croft Street flats after stealing the woman’s handbag.

Detective Inspector Paul Batten said: “This robbery has left an elderly lady with serious injuries, and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw the robbery or any suspicious behaviour in the area around noon.”

To oblige, call Police Scotland on 101.
