A 35-year-old man has been jailed for 150 days at Jedburgh Sheriff Court for assaulting his elderly father.
William Quarry pleaded guilty to pushing his 72-year-old father against a gate, resulting in him falling to the ground, at a property in Kelso on June 9.
He also admitted stealing 14 rifle rounds and two shotgun cartridges from a garden shed and possessing ammunition without a firearms certificate.
Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said his client had been living in London and trying to overcome various addictions, including to heroin, cocaine and alcohol, but had returned to Kelso and was sleeping rough there.
He added that Quarry regretted the incident involving his father.
Quarry, of no fixed abode, had the start of his jail sentence backdated to June 27, that being when he was first remanded in custody in connection with the case.
