Galashiels remembered its fallen on Friday evening, with a moving and visually stunning ceremony, based around the War Memorial.
The roads around the memorial were closed, allowing the street lights to be switched off, which showed the phenomena of the ‘Angel’s Wings’ to great effect.
Under certain lighting conditions, the statue above the plaque of the fallen appears to have shadowed wings.
Alasdair Hutton provided the narrative for the evening, evoking the tirbulations and fears of the town during World War I.
Musical accompaniment came from the Ex-Servicemen’s Pipe Band, the Galashiels Town Band and Langlee Community Choir.
