Rory has the last laugh after selling his Jedburgh mansion for £2.7m

Comedian Rory Bremner is laughing all the way to the bank after selling his seven-bedroom mansion near Jedburgh for £2.7m.

The popular Edinburgh-born impressionist and satirist bought Crailing House with his sculptor wife Tessa Campbell Fraser in 2009 for £1.5m.

But the 59-year-old has admitted spending an “astronomical sum’” refurbishing the property and estate, built for Captain James Paton of the East Indian Company, to its Regency glory.

The couple decided to sell the house and move permanently to their home in the Cotswolds because of their children's school commitments - but it has remained on the market with estate agents Knight Frank since 2019.

Records now show it sold in December last year for £2.7m.

The property looks over the Oxnam Water and is four miles north east of Jedburgh.

The Paton family owned the estate from 1802 to 1948, when it was bought by the 12th Marquis of Lothian.
