BORDERS College has been praised for its commitment to the environment and reducing its carbon footprint.

The college was one of 40 presented with a certificate by Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth, John Swinney, at a ceremony organised by the Carbon Trust.

The college’s finance and resources director Peter Smith, who attended the event with college facilities manager Robert Hewitt, said: “Borders College recognises that as an educational institution and a major employer in the Scottish Borders, it has a key role in reducing the environmental impact of our business.

“Our carbon management plan will be used to drive a range of initiatives, with a target of reducing our carbon footprint by some 25 per cent by 2015.”
