Grants on offer for local environment projects

COMMUNITY groups involved with nature are being invited to apply for grants of up to £20,000.

The awards, administered by Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), are aimed at getting more people involved in outdoor recreation, volunteering and outdoor learning, and are for projects of a year or less.

SNH’s director of operations Andrew Bachell said: “We’re expecting a lot of interest in this scheme and we’re looking forward to helping many community projects get off the ground.”

The £1,000 to £20,000 grants are also targeted at improving, protecting and managing habitats, species and landscapes, and projects that record information about local species and natural habitats.

SNH was considering applications from Tuesday and is expected to make the first awards in early June
