Gardeners sought for pallet competition

Local gardeners are being invited to take part in a competition at Woodside Walled Garden, near Ancrum over the first weekend in May.

The Borders RSPB Local Group and Woodside Walled Garden are organising the pallet garden competition, which will be judged on Friday, May 2, and on show at Woodside from then until May 5.

The winning garden gains automatic entry to the Pallet Garden Competition at Gardening Scotland at The Royal Highland Centre, Ingleston, from Friday May 30 to June 1.

One of the organisers, Keith Davies said: “The theme is Giving Nature a Home and entries have been invited from schools, youth organisations, WRI groups and other groups across the Borders.”

Gardening Scotland, the national gardening and outdoor living show, combines the country’s biggest plant fair with a line-up of experts dispensing advice on all questions about growing and gardening.

Leading designers will be creating inspirational gardens and there will be floral displays and rare plants on sale.

More than 400 exhibitors are expected to take part, selling everything from tools and fashionable garden furniture to pots, plants and accessories.

Woodside won a gold medal at Gardening Scotland in 2011 when Stephen and Emma Emmerson exhibited their Homes for Wildlife garden.
