Pupils at Knowepark Primary School in Selkirk presented a cheque for £1,000 to Brian Wilkie, RSSPCC school co-ordinator, in the spring of 1988.
The children raised the money over just one week, through various sponsored events.
Anne Hunter of Innerleithen was the first Borderer to open a business through the Livewire scheme in 1988. The scheme allowed young people aged 16-25 to apply for a loan and receive help from a business adviser.
