Cycle contest gives website a racing start

THE Borders’ bid to be Scotland’s leading cycling destination takes a step forward with a new look website.

Scottish Borders Recreational Cycling Group aims to capitalise on the region’s hosting the Tour of Britain next weekend.

The group’s Julian Cram said: “The Borders boasts more Cyclist Welcome accredited accommodation and attractions than any other area in the country. Its combination of scenic road cycling, which includes longer way-marked routes and shorter trails, plus world class mountain biking, makes the Borders the ideal Scottish cycling destination.”

The website, www.cycle, shows road cycling routes and includes interactive maps and information on places to stay and things to do on a cycling break, details of forthcoming events and sections on mountain biking.

The website is the first result of a £175,000 grant from Europe, LEADER and the Scottish Government to the Scottish Borders Recreational Cycling project

The week-long Tour of Britain starts from Peebles on Sunday September 11 when riders will make their way to Dumfries.
