During a walk up a local hill on a cold January morning, brothers Robert and Craig Glendinning decided that they wanted to take ‘Just One Day’ from their lives and raise money for a cause close to their hearts, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Having lost their cousin Alan and younger brother Graeme to cancer within six weeks of each other, the two brothers decided to do something physically and emotionally challenging.
They decided this would be in recognition of the strength, will and determination shown by Alan, Graeme, their families and other cancer sufferers.
Over a 24-hour period, commencing at noon on Saturday, June 20, Craig, Robert and two friends – Jason Card and Craig Elliot – will complete four challenging 9.5-mile circuits of the local towns of Innerleithen and Walkerburn, taking in steep ascents, forest tracks, wild heather hilltops and riverside paths.
Once they have done all four laps, the team’s hike will total over 38 miles, with accumulated climbs equivalent to three Munros.
To try to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support, and celebrate the Just One Day team finishing its gruelling challenge, Craig’s wife Nicola is organising a cake and coffee morning on Sunday, June 21, at Glendinning Groundworks Offices from 10am to 1pm.
They will hold a raffle of generously-donated prizes, including: a signed Scotland jersey from the SRU, a fourball of golf voucher from MacDonald Cardrona, two tickets to Dawyck Botanical Gardens, an evening escape voucher to Stobo Castle, Traquair House Family pass and many more prizes.
