Alexander Edwards, 20, threw the kitchen sink into his homemade homage to the iconic Scottish drink.

Filmed in his hometown it features chases and stunts involving everything from a skateboard to a unicycle, with Alexander doing just about anything he can in a frantic bid to track down a can.

The video was very much a family affair featuring his sister Skye brother Marc, mum Carol and stepdad Dominic.

The effort was actually produced for a competition Irn- Bru launched last year but was submitted a day late for consideration.

However, it has proved such a hit that Irn-Bru has now put it on the drink’s Facebook site.

Alexander, a former pupil at Jedburgh Grammar School, said: "I wanted to go for a Charlie Chaplin kind of video. The idea was someone doing anything to get a can of Irn-Bru.”

A member of Hawick Opera, performing in Hairspray, Barnum and the Sound of Music, Alexander also studied at the MGA Academy in Edinburgh.

He currently works at the NHS vaccination clinic in Tweedbank but his long-term ambition is for a career in acting and film production.

He said: "My big goal is to get involved in film production and I try and make as many of my own videos as I can. Throughout lockdown I made about seven or eight videos for local Borders' businesses.”

Meanwhile, Alexander has applied for places at drama schools in Glasgow and London.

He added: "I'm hoping to make a new Irn- Bru advert quite soon just to tidy up any mistakes I may have made. It did incredibly well but there were a few comments about the camera could be a little bit more still and recommending that I didn't jump off a bridge at the end of it, which some thought a little dangerous. I’ll take the criticism onboard because I think it can help me as a creator. Most of the reaction was positive and I had about 150,000 views so far, with one thousand-plus comments, people saying they hope they see this on TV, that it was a favourite advert so far.” Check out the ad at @Iceamo2021 on Tik-Tok.
