NOSTALGIA: Kelso crowds turn out to support 1956 laddie

There might be no Kelso Civic Week this year due to the social distancing measures in place to slow the spread of coronavirus, but that’s not stopping the town from reminiscing.

Daily sharing of photos of celebrations in years gone by is taking place on the Kelso Civic Week Facebook page. This week, we’re joining in thanks to Southern Reporter reader James McCombie, who kindly sent us this photograph of 1956’s celebrations. His old photo shows that year’s Kelso laddie, Bert Nicholson, leading his mounted cavalcade through the town centre flanked by his right and left-hand men George McCombie and Tom Laing. James said: “These principals are all still alive and in their late eighties.”
