
Scores upon scores of the Royal Burgh’s townspeople waited in joyous anticipation outside the town hall for the announcement of the appointments that were taking place inside. Meanwhile, inside the historic chambers, town provost L G Thomson proposed the name of the 1970 Standard Bearer - 23-year-old joiner Falconer Grieve. His recommendation was unanimously endorsed and Falconer was carried shoulder high around the town.
