NHS Borders in new drive for vulnerable to take flu vaccine

With so much focus on the production of a vaccine for coronavirus, NHS Borders has reminded vulnerable people of the importance of ensuring they take up the chance of vaccinating against the flu this winter.

Health chiefs say it is more important than ever that everyone eligible for a flu vaccination takes up this offer, and they are pleased to see the number of people who are coming forward to book an appointment.

Nicky Berry, director of nursing, midwifery, AHPs and acute services, said: “The flu vaccination programme is bigger and very different this year in light of Covid-19.

“Our staff are working round the clock to ensure that we vaccinate those eligible as quickly and as safely as possible.

“This has been a huge team effort from staff across the organisation and our partners within GP practices and community pharmacies.

“I would like to say a huge thanks to all of our staff and partners for their continued hard work in providing this programme both to the public and our staff.

“I would also like to thank the public for their fantastic response in getting vaccinated.

“If you are eligible and have not yet been vaccinated there is still time to book an appointment.”

So far, 4,663 schoolchildren have been vaccinated, and 352 pregnant women received the vaccine at their midwife appointment.

Those aged 65 and over, unpaid/young carers and household members of those who were shielding are eligible.
