Councillor praises nurses

A Galashiels councillor who is recuperating in a Borders General Hospital ward which has since reported an outbreak of Covid-positive patients has praised hospital staff.

Euan Jardine injured his knee while out running at the weekend and was admitted to hospital when his wound became infected.

Since then, eight patients in ward 7, where he is in a side ward, have tested positive for coronavirus.

He said: “The outbreak is concerning, to say the least, but the staff have been very professional, wearing all the PPE such as visors, masks, aprons and gloves.

“The nurses in particular have been fantastic. If you didn’t read the Southern, you wouldn’t know there was Covid in the ward, as they have been very calm, albeit cautious. Patients in the ward have been told not to leave their room.

“Hopefully, I will be discharged on Friday, but I will need to be tested negative first.”
