So far there are 10 people in line for the accolades, including four who will receive awards for 40 years’ service.

Mr Wilson said: “There are more in the pipeline and the Border Union will be very pleased to hear from any employer and or employee who has been on the same farm or with the same employer for thirty, forty or fifty years.”

He said next year’s event would be the thirty first luncheon held since 1955.

And so far, since the awards started sixty seven years ago, the long service of 599 people has been recognised, amounting to a “massive” 20,655 years of service, said Mr Wilson.

He added: “It is little wonder that farming in the Borders is held in such high esteem, with such loyalty.

“These are amazing awards and I really would not like anyone who deserves one to slip the net.”

Invited speakers propose and reply to toasts to the medallists and the RHASS at the popular event. For further information ring Mr Wilson on 01573 224188 or email [email protected]
