Workers facing uncertain future as Borders garden centre and restaurant set to close
More than a dozen jobs are set to be lost next month as a Borders garden centre, shop and restaurant closes its doors for the final time.
Teviot Smokery and its water gardens, near Eckford, will close for good next Sunday, July 5.
The centre’s restaurant and water gardens have remained closed during lockdown but its food counters and retail shop reopened on reduced hours at the end of May.
Under government guidance, the restaurant could have reopened come Wednesday, July 15.
In a message on the smokery’s social media page this morning, a staff member said: “It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that we will be closing our doors for the last time on Sunday, July 5.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your loyalty and custom over the years. We will miss you.
“Can we remind anyone in possession of a valid gift voucher that they should make sure that it is redeemed before this date.”
Nobody at the smokery was available for comment this morning.
Last week it was confirmed five jobs would be lost as H Samuel confirmed the closure of its Galashiels store.
That news came just a week after nine jobs were lost as Clark’s shoe shop closed its Borders branch too.
