Peebles to host business workshops

Peebles is to host a new workshop programme aimed at giving local entrepreneurs the support they need.

The Thursday seminars in the town’s Tontine Hotel will cover topics such as business planning, bookkeeping and marketing.

Run by Scottish Borders Council’s advice service Business Gateway, the free events will take place from 10am till 1pm on the following dates:

October 1 – Bookkeeping: This workshop aims to equip you with an understanding of book keeping principles and demonstrates why keeping financial records is so important to the success of your business.

October 8 – Business start-up finance: The workshop will help you manage a profit and loss account, produce a cashflow statement, understand the meaning of working capital, describe the main sources of finance, and understand the different legal structures of a business.

October 15 – Business start-up planning: How to create a robust and realistic business plan.

October 22 – Business start-up marketing: This workshop will help you to understand your competitors, identify your customers and understand the things you need to consider for effective marketing.

Phil McCreadie, Business Gateway Manager, said: “We have launched this programme because we understand that it isn’t always easy or practical for those starting a business in Peeblesshire to make their way to Selkirk to attend our free seminars.

“The topics addressed are the building blocks of all businesses regardless of sector, providing relevant and up-to-date information in an informal setting.”
