Business continues to glow during Covid-19

After only a year in business, a Borders fitness instructor who had 40-50 members joining every class had to find a new way of working due to the Covid-19 lockdown.

And Gina Kennedy, who is 30, from Denholm, wasted no time in taking her Clubbercise classes online.

Clubbercise is taught in the dark, with everyone holding glow sticks and dancing to both old and new dance anthems.

Gina, who was inspired to learn the ropes herself after joining a class and loving it, said her once-burgeoning business has been massively impacted due to the current restrictions, but she is hoping to bring even more people into the fold online.

She said: “I started the business in April 2019, and it was an instant success throughout the Borders, and I held classes in Hawick, Jedburgh, Galashiels, Selkirk, Lauder and Peebles.

“It’s a brilliant class for everyone and it definitely helps those who are self conscious and don’t have much confidence, as they can dance in the dark with no cares in the world and no-one else can see them.

"There’s no pressure on anyone, as there are different intensity levels for all abilities, so people can go at their own pace to work towards their goals.”

“We have been massively impacted due to Covid-19, although we have been doing online classes during the lockdown to try and keep the Borders moving, with plenty of people getting involved.

"We’re maybe getting 15-20 people per class, as not everybody enjoys exercising online, but it’s a brilliant way to keep yourself motivated and fit, and it’s great for your mental health too. It’s also something for us all to look forward to twice a week.”

Gina is holding a charity clubbercise class online on Tuesday, March 2, to raise money for NHS Borders.

She said: “I’m very passionate about charity work and I feel this is an ideal way to give something back to our wonderful NHS, who do an amazing job all year round for us all, and especially the work they’ve had to do over the past 12 months due to Covid.”
