Originally created and produced by Dundee Rep Theatre in 2007, the musical based on the Songs of the Proclaimers follows the highs and lows of Ally and Davy as they return home to Leith from the army.

Families, friendships
and relationships face challenges in this funny and moving musical about love, life and Hibernian football club.

Ally wants to propose to girlfriend Liz, but do they want the same things out of life? Will Davy hit it off with sister Liz’s friend Yvonne? And can George and Jean’s 25-year marriage survive the uncovering of a dark secret from years before?

Featuring songs such as Let’s Get Married, the titular track Sunshine on Leith and of course 500 Miles, the musical was also brought to the big screen in 2013.

This youth production from Tweed Theatre is backed by a live band on stage organized by local music charity Nomad Beat.

There will be programmes on sale at each show, with the profit from sales to be donated to Nomad Beat.

And two lucky programmes will be drawn after each performance, with two winners each receiving a flyer from the Tweed Theatre production signed by the Proclaimers themselves, Charlie and Craig Reid.

Sunshine on Leith is on between from Thursday to Saturday, February 18-20. Performances at 7.30pm with a matinee on the 20th at 2.30pm.

Tickets, priced £10 or £8 for concessions, are available online at www.eastgatearts.com or by phoning the Eastgate Theatre box office on 01721 725777.

But you’ll have to be quick. Keith Brunton of Tweed Theatre says: “Friday and Saturday night really only have single tickets left and the Thursday night and Saturday matinee are selling fast.”

So, better get them while you can.
