Preview: The Great Train Race

And Borderers Ellie Zeegen and Simon Donaldson are set to take starring roles in this great new Play, a Pie and a Pint production, which opens for three nights at Firebrand’s partnership venue, Heart of Hawick, and then transfers to the Galashiels Interchange for a lunchtime and evening performance.

Ancrum-based actress Ellie will be making her Firebrand debut along with Galashiels-born Simon, and will be joined by Edinburgh’s rising star Ali Watt, in Robert Dawson Scott’s acclaimed true story of the fierce and often underhand rivalry between the famous Victorian railway companies, the Caledonian and the North British, and their death-defying 1895 London to Aberdeen train race.

According to director Richard Baron, “These three versatile actors also play a host of other colourful characters in a fascinating and fun-filled historical romp that we’ve staged, with the generous support of the Borders Railway Celebration Fund, to 
hail the arrival of our new railway.

“And to celebrate things further, audience members are invited to join us for 
a delicious pie from Hunters of 
Hawick and a tasty pint from the award-winning Scottish Borders Brewery, all included in the bargain ticket price.”

The Great Train Race runs at Heart of Hawick from Thursday 26 to Saturday November 28 at 7.30pm. For tickets, call 01450 360688 or call in to the Visit Scotland desk at Tower Mill.

The play will then be pulling in at the Interchange, Galashiels, on Sunday November 29 at 1pm and 6pm. Tickets for this venue, priced at £10/£8, can be purchased from the Born in the Borders cafe at 
the Interchange or on the door.
