The young Romanian pianist will play a recital of 24 Preludes by Shostakovich, and then Chopin’s famous set of Preludes.

“Alexandra is making a very big reputation for herself as a thoroughly engaging musical personality and a very fine pianist,” writes the society’s Peter Podmore.

“She recently made her third appearance on Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’, bringing a surprised Sean Rafferty a beautiful cake, worthy of any sent to the Test Match Special team. Her enthusiasm for baking apparently almost matches her enthusiasm for the piano.

“2013 was a wonderful year for her. Selected as one of Forbes Magazine’s ’30 under 30’, Alexandra Dariescu is an outstanding ambassador for classical music.“

In 2013 Alexandra gave her debut at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and became the first Romanian female pianist to perform in this prestigious hall.

Alexandra won the Women of the Future Award in the Arts and Culture category in 2013 and has released two CDs on Champs Hill Records, and in October played Beethoven’s 4th Piano Concerto in South Africa with the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra where she was able to teach some of the children there.

In the next month she will be playing Tchaikovsky’s 1st Piano Concerto with the Halle and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Shostakovich’s 2nd Piano Concerto with the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

With concerts in Germany as well she is firmly established as a ‘Rising Star’, an award given her in 2011 by BBC Music Magazine.
