Gala Dramateurs, who have been treading the boards since 1949, have been celebrating their latest success.

Their first appearance at the Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA) One Act Play Festival saw them come away with the Best Newcomers award for their performance of Alan Ayckbourn’s A Talk In The Park.

The group’s spokesperson said: “It went without a hitch and we felt we delivered a strong piece.

“Our critique from the adjudicator was very informative, highlighting our strengths, which included our stylistic set design, as well as constructive feedback, that we will definitely learn from to improve future performances.”

Buoyed by the award, the Dramateurs are returning to their 1949 format of putting on two shows a year – and they are taking them out on the road.

The spokesperson said: “Our first show of the year, Good Things by Liz Lochead, starts on Saturday, April 26, at the Mac Arts Theatre, St Andrews Art Centre, in Galashiels, at 7.30pm.

“The Dramateurs will be the first drama group to perform at the newly renovated theatre.”

“Written by Liz Lochhead, this charming play, sees Susan suddenly single and heading towards the dreaded 50 deal with the unpredictable dramas of life.”

After that opening night, the play moves to Eckford Village Hall on Friday, May 2, at 7:30pm, and to Lilliesleaf Village Hall on Saturday, May, 3, at 7:30pm.
