A transatlantic duo that combines fiddle from Scotland and cello from Canada will soon be making waves at the Eastgate Theatre in Peebles.

Their first collaboration resulted in the release of Touchwood, one of the first modern albums to re-establish the old dance band pairing of fiddle and cello, to widespread critical acclaim.

“Supreme musicianship, perfect clarity, and inspired creativity make this one of the best Scottish fiddle CDs ever.” (Music in Scotland)

In the 15 years since they first met to play some of the older Scottish fiddle tunes, renowned Scottish fiddler Iain Fraser and adventurous Canadian cellist Christine Hanson have carved out busy musical paths in their respective countries.

This year, the pair renew their phenomenal musical chemistry, exploring old tunes from the Highlands, the Lowlands, the Prairies and the Maritimes, but with the shoes kicked off and emotions running high.

Following their first performance together in 2016 – a sell-out show at the recent Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow, for which they received a 5-star review in the Scotsman – they bring their new material to the Borders on Thursday April 28 at 7.30pm.

Tickets £14 (£12 concs, £6 for schoolchildren. Call the box office on 01721 725777 or see www.eastgatearts.com
