The programme has been launched for Music at Paxton, a summer festival of superb international chamber music, which takes place in Paxton House on the banks of the River Tweed in the Scottish Borders from 15–24 July 2016.

The concerts offer an intimate, friendly and relaxed experience and take place in Paxton House’s splendid Picture Gallery. With its large, domed roof-light that lets in the summer sun, and walls hung high with paintings from the National Galleries of Scotland’s collection, it is an idyllic setting for chamber music.

Opening this year’s festival on Friday 15 July at 7.30pm are Alina Ibragimova, one of the most accomplished and intriguing violinists of the younger generation, Cédric Tiberghien, a pianist whose career spans five continents, and cellist Pieter Wispelwey, whose original interpretation and phenomenal technical mastery has won the hearts of critics and public alike.

Another highlight is Pieter Wispelwey, who performs Bach’s solo cello suites on Saturday July 16 at 4.30pm.

At 7.30pm the Doric String Quartet, one of Britain’s leading string quartets, is joined by Alina Ibragimova and Cedric Tiberghien for Chausson’s Concert for violin, piano and string quartet in a concert which also includes Thomas Ades’s The Four Quarters and Beethoven’s Quartet Op 57 no 2 ‘Razumovsky’.

Performing for the very first time at Music at Paxton, on Wednesday July 20 at 7.30pm, are world-renowned Scottish Chamber Orchestra Wind Soloists. Made up of the finest Scottish and international musicians, the SCO Winds comprise pairs of clarinets, bassoons and natural horns and promise to delight this year’s audience with a programme of Mozart, Hindemith, Haydn, Beethoven, d’Indy and Françaix.

Also new to the festival are the winners of last year’s Wigmore Hall String Quartet, Van Kuijk Quartet, who make their Scottish Festival debut on Friday July 22.
