Smailholm Village Hall will play host to husband-wife singer/acoustic duo Bancroft and Lyne tomorrow (November 14).

Sophie Bancroft and Tom Lyne have worked as a duo for 13 years. In the setting of voice, bass and guitar, they create a dynamic , entertaining and intimate interpretation of beautiful songs.

Their repertoire includes Sophie’s original folk-tinged songs, informed by both the vibrant Scottish jazz scene and the rich traditional music culture in which she has grown up, stunning jazz standards and songs from other genres which invite the jazz treatment, including songs by the Bard himself, Robbie Burns, and the likes of Dolly Parton.

As well as being a vocalist, Sophie has also received much acclaim as a songwriter and composer, with her work being used in major US TV shows such as Six Feet Under.

As well as playing at numerous jazz and folk festivals and major music venues, the duo have supported bands such as guitar legend Bert Jansch at the ABC in Glasgow and multi-award winning jazz vocalist Liane Carroll.
