SELKIRK artist John Nelson has an exhibition at Peebles’ Eastgate Theatre until January 9 next year.

The exhibition illustrates John’s love of colour in landscape, seascape, still-life, figurative, abstract and semi-abstract work.

His work is in many private and public collections throughout the world.

Born in Edinburgh, John studied at the capital’s college of art from 1962 to 1967 where he was awarded a number of painting and drawing prizes, including the Andrew Grant Scholarship.

After his studies, a postgraduate travelling scholarship took him to France, Holland and Belgium, creating opportunities for exhibitions there.

From 1971 to 1996 he was an art lecturer at Stevenson College, Edinburgh.

Despite being a native of Auld Reekie, he is a member of The Glasgow League of Artists and was elected chairman in 1975.
