The Braw Lads’ Gathering in Galashiels has a new president.

David Romanis, 65, is a former president of the town’s Rotary club.

His three-year appointment was unanimously endorsed last week and he will be formally welcomed by the Braw Lads’ Executive Committee at a reception in Old Gala House on November 11.

A native of Galashiels, Mr Romanis, who lives in Clovenfords, was property manager for Scottish Borders Council until his retiral in 2012 after a local government career spanning 37 years.

Mr Romanis, who takes over the role from Andrew Johnston, said: “I feel humbled and honoured to be proposed and then appointed. I will do my best to aspire to the very high standards set by past presidents.”

Next year’s Braw Lads’ Gathering reaches its climax on Saturday, June 27.
