TWO new trustees have been appointed to the trust which runs author Sir Walter Scott’s home at Abbotsford near Galashiels, writes Bob Burgess.
The trust is currently overseeing a £12 million regeneration project at Abbotsford House which includes a purpose-built visitor centre which is due to open next month.
Joining the volunteer trust are Edinburgh-born Sir Eric Anderson a former headmaster of Eton and Rector of Lincoln College Oxford and Liz McIntyre the Principal and Chief Executive of Borders College.
Chairman of the Abbotsford Trust Lord Sanderson of Bowden commented: “We are incredibly fortunate to be able to announce such high calibre appointments.
“The project has come a long way since the trust was formed but there is still much work to do as we transform Abbotsford into a world-class visitor attraction and centre of learning about Scott and his work.
“We believe that Liz McIntyre and Sir Eric Anderson have the perfect combination of knowledge and experience to make a significant contribution to our work.”
In addition to the £12 million already raised, the trust has a target of a further £2.5 million to ensure the project can be completed.
